A Passion for the Past, Built for the Present

CurioMart was founded in 2018 by Eleanor Vance, a lifelong collector whose fascination with vintage curiosities began at her grandmother's estate sales in rural Ohio. After spending two decades as a curator at the Portland Art Museum, Eleanor recognized a gap in the market: a trustworthy, beautifully presented online space where collectors could discover authenticated vintage pieces without sifting through chaotic auction sites.

How do you authenticate vintage items?⌄
Every item listed on CurioMart undergoes a multi-point authentication process. Our team examines maker's marks, materials, construction techniques, patina, and historical context. For high-value pieces, we consult specialist reference databases and may engage external experts. Each listing includes a summary of our authentication findings so buyers can purchase with confidence.
What is your shipping and return policy?⌄
We ship to all 50 U.S. states via insured carriers — typically UPS or FedEx Ground for most items, with specialty white-glove shipping available for furniture and oversized pieces. Standard shipping is calculated at checkout based on weight and destination. Returns are accepted within 14 days of delivery provided the item is in its original condition. Buyers are responsible for return shipping unless the item was misrepresented.
How does the consignment process work?⌄
The consignment journey begins with a free consultation — you send us photos and descriptions of your items. If accepted, we'll discuss pricing strategy and create professional listings with high-quality photography. Once an item sells, we handle payment collection, packaging, and shipping. You receive 75% of the final sale price; our commission is 25%. Payouts are processed within 7 business days of confirmed delivery.
What types of items do you accept for consignment?⌄
We specialize in items from approximately 1880 through 1980, including: decorative arts, jewelry and watches, ceramics and glassware, books and ephemera, mid-century modern furniture, vintage clothing and accessories, scientific instruments, and folk art. We generally do not accept mass-produced items from after 1980, fine art requiring specialized authentication, or items in poor condition. When in doubt, reach out — we're happy to advise.
How long does an appraisal take and what does it cost?⌄
Virtual photo-based appraisals typically take 3-5 business days and start at $49 for a single-item valuation report. Comprehensive estate appraisals involving multiple items are priced on a project basis, generally ranging from $150 to $600 depending on scope. In-person appraisals in the Portland metro area start at $89 per hour. All appraisal reports include detailed descriptions, condition notes, comparable market data, and estimated value ranges suitable for insurance purposes.
